| Why
the Raven? The analogy is simple.
The Raven is a problem solver, a tool user and a symbol for
knowledge and intelligence. We fancy our selves to be much
of the same. It’s our job to be clever in our thinking,
our job to figure out how to make things work or how to make
things work better.
The Raven’s ingenuity is best described
in this popular tale. The story goes that the Raven found
a pitcher near empty but which held a small amount of water
in its base. Being too deep for the Raven to reach, it appeared
that he would go thirsty. Ingenuity prevailed as the Raven
began to collect pebbles, easy to carry in its beak, and drop
them into the pitcher. As the pebbles to consumed the space
of the water at the base of the pitcher, the water was forced
to move up, and eventually up to the surface where the Raven
satisfied his thirst and no doubt himself in general with
his cleverness!
We like to think that we share this craftiness
with the Raven. Inspired by this clever bird, we follow suit
in our on going efforts focused on resourcefulness, quick
thinking, and the ability to make intelligent decisions.
